Naan bread with garlic and coriander

These easy to make naan beads with garlic and coriander tastes fantastic.

Authentic naan needs to be baked in a specially made brick oven, but we will instead make use of the grill function on your oven.

Ingredients (Makes 4)

250g/9oz plain flour
2 tsp sugar
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
130ml/4½fl oz milk
2 tbsp vegetable oil, plus extra for greasing the bowl
garlic, finely chopped
fresh coriander, chopped

Preparation method

Sift the flour and add it to a bowl along with the sugar, salt and baking powder.

In another bowl, mix together the milk and oil.

Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture and pour in the liquid mixture. Slowly mix together the dough by working form the centre and incorporating the flour from the edges. That will ensure that you get a smooth and soft dough.

Knead the dough well for around 10 minutes. If it is too sticky you can add a little flour.

Oil an bowl and place the dough into it, cover it with a towel and leave it in a warm place for 15 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 250-300C/480F-570F and use the grill function.

Put the dough on a floured table. Form the dough into five equal parts.

Roll the dough parts out quite thinly, around the size of a plate.

Place them on baking paper that you have put on a baking grid.

Sprinkle over the finely chopped garlic and the fresh coriander and press into the surface of the dough.

Place the naans in the oven for just 3-4 minutes, or until lightly browned.

Take them out of the oven, brush with butter and serve hot.
